On Thursday, 10 men India made a good defense as they won 0-1 against the Asian champions Qatar in Friday’s World Cup qualifying match. Abdel Aziz scored in the 33rd minute in a game completely dominated by the Qataris. Both sides played a goalless draw in the first leg in September 2019. Qatar, still without losing a game, had waves of attacks with eight to nine players mostly in the Indian midfield.
Goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu had to score several shots to keep the loss gap small. In India, however, 10 men played with 17 men in the 17th minute after defending Rahul Bheke after a second red card. He had previously received a yellow card in the ninth minute.
India made two good plays in the counter-attacks with Manvir Singh.
Indian captain Sunil Chhetri, who returned to the team after recovering from COVID-19 infection, was replaced by Udanta Singh early in the second half.
An undefeated India remained fourth in Group E with three points from six games.
Igor Stimac’s men are two points clear of Afghanistan (third with five points) and drew 1-1 earlier in the day in Bangladesh. India will play Bangladesh on June 7 in the next match.
