Members of the Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) on Monday approved a proposal to move forward with the team’s individual captain. The Afghan leadership has also removed Afghan Asghar as the men’s national team skipper. “According to the decision, left-wing Hashmatullah Shahidi has appointed new national team ODI and Test Captain while Rahmat Shah will be deputy captain of both formats,” the ACB said in an official statement.
“In addition, it was decided that General Rashid Khan will remain the deputy captain of the T20I team while the decision to appoint a new captain will be made soon,” he added.
An official note from the ACB says the decision to remove Asghar from the Afghan captaincy was made based on an investigation by the ACB’s Commission of Inquiry.
The investigation concluded that some of the decisions taken by Afghanistan as the team’s captain had affected Afghanistan’s castle in Zimbabwe in March in the first test of the two-party series in Abu Dhabi.
