All Indian Tennis Association “condemns” Rohan Bopanna, tweets from Sania Mirza, calls them “inappropriate, misleading” | Olympic News

The All India Tennis Association (FATHER) on Monday condemned tennis stars Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza for qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics. “Twitter comments made by Rohan Bopanna and then Sania Mirza are inappropriate, misleading, and seemingly ignorant of the rules. They should check the ITF’s rulebook on Qualifications, something Divij Sharan allegedly did while writing to TOPS.” The father said in a note. “Rohan Bopanna could not be classified according to ITF rules. Therefore, even Sania Miza’s tweet has no basis and coming from a player of his level is reprehensible,” the statement said. Bopanna on Monday tweeted that FATHER had “tricked” the players into saying Bopanna and Sumit Nagal had a chance to qualify for the Games.

“The ITF has never accepted Sumit Nagal and my entry. The ITF made it clear that after the end of the nomination period (June 22) no changes were allowed unless there was an Injury / Illness. There was a chance,” Bopanna tweeted.

Responding to Bopanna’s tweet, Sania said, “Whaaattt ??? If this is true, it’s totally ridiculous and embarrassing. This means we sacrificed a very good shot in a medal in mixed doubles and you and I would have acted as we wished. They both told us you and that you have given the names of the Sumites. “

The FATHER dismissed the players and said: “The best entry in India was sent to Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharani, it was the right decision. However, they were not classified according to ITF rules.

“The ranking of our players was not enough to get a correct ranking, and we tried to get them. Rohan and Divij were fifth on the substitute list on July 16. Only on July 16, Sumit Nagal had a chance to singles, we saw a chance to partner with Sumit Rohan, also solo because they were considered.

“We have asked the ITF if the entry of Sumit Nagal will be enough to match Rohan Bopanna for the Men’s Doubles entry. The ITF has informed us that this cannot be done at this stage for various reasons and rules. Even if it is done, the pair would still not qualify.

“He would be in third place with Rohan Sumit.”

Questioning Bopanna’s accusations, the FATHER’s statement reads: “Does Rohan Bopanna suggest that we should include his name with Sumit Nagal a month ago, when Sumit’s ranking was in the 140s and Divij in the 78s? Rohan Bopanna, who is the player? due to a senior’s lack of knowledge and ITF facts, the rules are misunderstood and unsecured and completely misleading.

The FATHER said Sania’s comments were “most inappropriate.”

“Sania Mirza’s comments are also inappropriate. The standings with Rohan Divij or Sumit Nagal were not good enough for the standings. So how did we lose the chance to win medals in the men’s doubles or mixed doubles,” the FATHER said.

“This tweet and statement from Mr. Bopanna is certainly condemned.”
