The European football organization accused UEFA on Tuesday of four different offenses related to the bad behavior of fans in the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy. Italy ended England’s dream of winning the 2020 Euro here on Sunday at Wembley Stadium (local time). Azzurri beat England 3-2 on penalties in the 90th minute of normal action and ended in a 1-1 draw in extra time. Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka missed the chance to score on penalties.
The English players were abused on social media.
Prior to the Wembley match, fans engaged in clashes and some even tried to enter Wembley Stadium without tickets. After the match, a fight also broke out between the fans inside and around the stadium.
“Disciplinary proceedings have been opened after the last UEFA EURO 2020 match between the Italian and English national teams (1-1, Italy won 3-2 on penalties), which was played on 11 July at Wembley Stadium in London,” UEFA said in a statement.
The charges are as follows:
Invasion of the playing field by his supporters – Article 16 (a) (2) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR).
Throwing objects at his supporters – Article 16 (2) (b) DR
Disturbance caused by his supporters in the national anthem – Article 16 (2) (g) DR
Lighting a fireworks display for its supporters – Article 16 (2) (c) of the DR
In its statement, UEFA added: “The case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) in due course. to conduct disciplinary investigations into the events of the assistants “.
The Football Association of England (FA) also condemned racist abuses against players in the early hours of Monday morning. “The FA condemns all forms of discrimination and terrorizes online racism against certain players in our England on social media,” an official document read.
The micro-blogging website has removed more than 1,000 tweets from Twitter and has definitively suspended several accounts after it was found that racial abuse was taking place against England players as the Three Lions lost Italy’s 2020 Euro Cup final against Italy.
