and shared that he is very excited to see Sonakshi as a policeman in the project he will be doing with Sinha. Sohum also had aspirations as an actor and is using Lockdown to connect with his roots.
Sohum, who has acted and produced projects like the Theseus ship and Tumbbad, explained his comparisons with his character Lalu Prasad Yadav and the kind of projects his family wants to see. “I’m waiting for my family to make characters that are bigger than my life because they’re not interested in unique stories like Tumbbad. They want to see me in the movies they grew up watching,” Sohum said in an exclusive chat. with
Here are the excerpts from the interview,
1. Your screening
many fans have praised him. What was the response of the show?
he’s got a lot of love in the audience, more than we expected, so I’m happy because a lot of people have seen the show and appreciate all the work he’s done.
2. How did you prepare your character with such a complex story? We also heard that you took the weight of playing Bheema Bharti, which didn’t make you very noticeable on the show.
Not being able to admit it is like the biggest compliment an actor can get for their performance, but I didn’t have much to do with weight gain. I will give him full credit to his mother. I was at home during the lockdown and as mothers, they always think that their children are not eating enough. So I gained 10kg when I had to go back to Mumbai. After all that back then I was thinking that the first thing would be to lose weight. But fortunately, the show that Maharani offered me matched the weight of the time.
I honestly didn’t get much time to prepare for the role because we joined the cast and started filming in 20 days. Luckily, Mr. Subhash (the director) speaks very well in Bihar and also our writing team is Biharkoa, so they helped a lot in the dialect. The even greater challenge was to capture the Psychology of Bheema. I watched a lot of videos of Indian politicians and political leaders in Tomorrow. I didn’t have to do much work because I could easily grasp his thought process and his biggest contribution was an interview on the show “Jail ke taale tutengay, Bheema Babu chutengay”. When I heard that, I knew exactly what Bheema was like to be a self-confident and self-confident person.
3. Makers has made it clear that the show is fictional, but what do you have to say about the comparisons made with Lalu Prasad-Rabri Devi?
The show is fictional, not even inspired or based on anyone, but since everyone is very knowledgeable about politics, comparisons will happen. So I think that people will make some connections to what political spectacle they are doing, I think that happened with Maharani. But if you go through the first few episodes, that’s not going to release you that way.

4. How have you dealt with the Pandemic? Have you been reading more scripts or like most of your fans, are you also attracted to bingeing content online?
I’ve been retrieving content online but mostly spend time with my friends at home. I spent the last 10 years working in Films in Mumbai and I lost touch with everyone. You can lose touch with reality after a long time doing one thing, so it’s been a good experience as an actor as well. There’s more to learning here, as I spend more time with everyone.
5. Your filmography is made up of films of different genres and Maharani is another Unexpected project. What attracts you to different scripts?
We are very small actors, I will work with them who offer the work. People think I’m selected with my scripts but the opposite is true, I get very few offers. Since I don’t have formal training from places like the National Theater School, people are responsible for hiring me. The producers aren’t sure if I’ll be able to take on the role, plus they’re very careful about the types of projects I’ve worked on because they’re not very common.
So it’s all thanks to the projects I’ve worked on, the personal relationships I’ve had, and the people I’ve met over the years. Dibakar Banerjee loved Ship of Theseus and got in touch with me, I met Subhash Kapoor at the national awards when I received one of Ship of Theseus and got it for Jolly LLB. We didn’t work together right away but in the end, they contacted me in Maharani.
People also wonder if I’m serious about actors because I’m a producer. As an actor, I’m very stingy and want to be a part of all kinds of movies. Comedy, romance, horror and all commercial films. I’m waiting for my family to make characters that are bigger than my life, because I’m not interested in unique stories like Tumbbad. They want to see me in movies like the ones I grew up watching and I’m interested in them too. So after finally 10 years, I’m getting roles like this
and the upcoming show
With Sonakshi Sinha.
6. Now, your projects have been unique and advanced over time, but with OTT, they’re getting a more unique story platform and fans are enjoying it. Do you think the industry is finally reaching out to artists who believe in more than just the commercial side of storytelling?
It’s true when we started working
In 2012, no one worked on films like this. People didn’t even talk about philosophical films at the time
But now that films like this are coming out, I’m glad to see that the audience is getting to see something different and that they are enjoying it too. Thanks to OTT and different content, people can now easily accept stories like this. It also makes things easier for those of us who want to make a special film.
7. There have been rumors about it
and fans are waiting to hear about the sequel. What would you like to share with them?
It took me seven years to make my first film, it’s too early to talk
2. Tumbbad. We’re still trying to break the right argument and have 3-4 ideas, but nothing has been set in stone. I will
but not for the box office or on request, but because the world of Tumbbad was so special, we wanted to explore more.
8. Can you share anything about the upcoming show with Sonakshi Sinha?
Sonakshi and I are both playing cops in the movie. The series may be released in November or December of this year. I really enjoyed playing a unique and complex character. It’s the first time I’ve had the opportunity to play police and wearing a uniform was a tremendous experience. I grew up with how I played police in the big stars and especially after watching it I wanted to play with the police. Now I finally had a chance, so I’m excited to get out of the shows.

9. What can your fans expect from you in future projects?
I’m doing a silent comedy and I’m very happy with it. The film also starred Nushrratt Bharuccha, Nora Fatehi, Konkona Sen Sharma, who were very different actors. So I think I’m going to get to live something completely new and I’m looking forward to it. In the area of production, we’ve been working on a Horror Story, and when we’re going to release three films that have already been shot.
