Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Milkha Singh Sprint Legend and asked about his health. Milkha Singh, who tested positive for COVID-19 two weeks ago, was admitted to the ICU on Thursday at Covd Hospital, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.
Prime Minister Modi wanted Milkha Singh to recover quickly and hopes to return soon to bless and inspire the athletes taking part in the Tokyo Olympics.
On May 24, Milkha Singh was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohal as a preventative measure. He tested positive for coronavirus and was isolated at his home in Chandigarh.
Jeev also thanked his son for all the good wishes and said that his father received wonderful attention.
Milkha Singh is also known as The Flying Sikh. He is still the only Indian athlete to have won gold in the 400 meters at the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games.
He also won gold medals at the 1958 and 1962 Asian Games. He represented India at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome and the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
He was awarded the Padma Shri Award, India’s fourth highest civilian honor, in recognition of his sporting achievements. (OSO)
