French coach Didier Deschamps has said that midfielder N’Golo Kante is well worth winning the Golden Ball this season. Kante was in an amazing season and helped Chelsea win the Champions League. He was named the Man of the Match in both the semi-finals and the Champions League finals. “N’Golo, he doesn’t have a striker’s record. He can score a few goals, but because of what he does, everyone has had to watch his last games, especially the Champions League final, N’Golo is also the engine.” Deschamps told RTL, Goal.com as reported by.
“The Golden Ball? It’s worth it. You know the criteria as well as I do, especially when it comes to attacking players. When there was a defender or midfielder, it was because there were no attacking players that really marked football.” Deschamps said.
“He’s also one of those agents of the French team, he has a place, not to say he’s small in size, but he’s huge,” he added.
Deschamps also noted that he is open to extending his contract as head coach from 2022 onwards.
The 52-year-old is in his ninth year as coach of France, but has only 12 months left on his current deal.
“I can continue with my president’s agreement after 2022. People need to keep me and you need results for that. I’ll do something else someday, but I’m moving forward in that managerial role,” Deschamps said.
“I have a contract until December 2022, but today I am not thinking of being the coach of the club. I am very happy, all the conditions are met,” he added.
Under Deschamps, France won the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the team reached the UEFA Euro 2016 Finals.
