Veteran actor Paresh Rawal, climbed on board to shoot the rest of the Swansong song “Sharmaji Namkeen” by Rishi Kapoor to pay homage to the star who embraced him with a sense of responsibility. The 66-year-old actor was tied to the rope by Excel Entertainment earlier this year to take on the character that Rishi Kapoor filmed before he disappeared last year.
Completing the film, due to the age-old story of a 60-year-old man, was an “emotionally overwhelming experience,” Rawal said.
“I respected him a lot as a human being. He was the father of my favorite actor, Ranbir Kapoor, a great talent of the Kapoor family. He was responsible for doing his role, taking it forward. I knew I could approach him with great elegance. It can’t be taken for granted,” the actor told PTI.
Rawal collaborated with Rishi Kapoor on films like “Damini”, “Hathyar” and “Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi”, which ended the filming of the film directed by Hitesh Bhatia a few days ago.
Juhi Chawla also appears in “Sharmaji Namkeen”, starring in Rishi Kapoor’s “Bol Radha Bol”, “Eena Meena Deeka” and “Daraar”.
Rawal said it is unfortunate that Rishi Kapoor, who turned 67 after a two-year battle with leukemia last April, was unable to complete the project.
“It’s not more, but it’s a big loss for the audience, because the script of the film is very excellent. I read as good a script as this after a long time.
“If Rishi Sahab were in this film, they would create fireworks. Whatever work they have done is tremendous. As an audience, it has been my loss that he has not been able to finish the film,” he added.
“Sharmaji Namkeen” is produced by Excel Entertainment alongside Casting director Honey Trehan and director Abhish Chaubey with the band MacGuffin Pictures.
Rawal “Hungama 2” is waiting for the release of his next Comedy. The film, directed by Priyadarshan, will premiere on Disney + Hotstar on July 23rd.
The actor will also be seen in the sports drama “Toofan,” which is scheduled to begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting Friday.
