Saqlain Mushtaq was the only spinner to throw a “legal doosra” in his professional career. India’s Ravichandran feels like spinner star Ashwin, the governing body of the ICC game wants to remove the 15-degree elbow flexion to a legitimate level. Ashwin spoke in a compelling discussion with former South African performance analyst Prasanna Agoram about one of the deadliest turns to the right. While Saqlain started the doos revolution, others who were badly thrown were Muttiah Muralitharan, Harbhajan Singh and Saeed Ajmal. “I don’t think we should eradicate (the doosra), but allow the rotators to doosra responsibly with a proper Bowl,” Ashwin said in “The Legend of the Doosra” with Agoram in his YouTube session in Tamil.
“There should be no violations. Everyone should be allowed to go to the Bowl – 15 degrees or 20-22 degrees.”
Prasanna wanted to expand the so-called ‘line’ set by the International Cricket Council (ICC) with a 15-degree elbow extension and wanted to watch the spinners Bowl ‘doosra’ responsibly.
“I want the same balance between the bat and the ball. The bowlers need another draw as well as the bats. That way the competition can be improved. I want to see this ball defend 125 in the T20 Cricket. That’s the end result,” he added.
“But in some cases where the (referees’) action only happens for the doos, I want the ICC to be flexible at 18.6 degrees. If the bowlers support the doos packing, the competitiveness (between bats and balls) should be taken into account,” he added.
Ashwin also said that Saqlain Mushtaq was a former Pakistani spinner who threw the “doosra” beautifully and legally.
“Saqlain threw it beautifully and legally (‘doosra’). He threw it at a slow pace and it was also legally possible speed (77 km / h),” he said.
According to Ashwin, the only other spin that legalized the doosra was Shoaib Malik before he began to concentrate more on his battle.
