Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar Ravichandran Ashwin did not have a great list on his list. they are yet to be proven. “I think Ravichandran Ashwin, with all due respect, is a very good person at what he does, but when people start talking about him, I have some problems,” Manjrekar said.
“One of the basic issues I have with Ashwin is when you look at the SENA, the countries for bats and balls, the places where Indians find themselves outside their comfort zone – it’s amazing that they don’t have a single five-wicket haul. Five wicket haul in all these countries.” Manjrekar said this in a session on ESPNCricinfo’s YouTube channel.
“Another thing – you talk about the fact that he runs across the sides of the Indian fields when the fields adapt to his bowling type. But in the last four years, (Ravindra) Jadeja has joined the ability to take the wicket throughout the series.
“So Ashwin is not a boy who was above the others. And it’s interesting that in the last series against England, Axar Patel got more innings than Ashwin in similar pitches. That’s my problem in accepting Ashwin as a great player.”
Ashwin is India’s fourth-highest buyer in the Trials, with 409 wickets in 78 trials, just behind Harbhajan Singh, Kapil Dev and Anil Kumble.
He is ranked second in the ICC test standings for bowlers and fourth in the standings for all test takers.
The 34-year-old is part of the Test Squad of India for the final of the World Test Championship against New Zealand from June 18 in Southampton. He will also take part in a five-match Test series against England in Nottingham from 4 August.
