Spain will include Euro 2020 management over coronavirus concerns | Football news

The Spanish Euro 2020 team will have to be vaccinated against Covid-19 a few days before the start of the tournament, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday after giving two positive players. The announcement said the team’s directors had formed a “parallel” reserve team of 17 and arrived a few hours later, who will have to play if infections spread among his players. Health Minister Carolina Darias will announce “this afternoon” that “the Spanish national team will be vaccinated, as is the case with all international sports professionals like those who compete in the Olympics,” the spokeswoman told AFP.

The sudden decision came when Spanish defender Diego Llorente became the second player to give Covid-19 a positive tonight, after the same thing happened on Sunday with captain Sergio Busquets.

Since Sunday, the entire Spanish Euro Squadron has been isolated.

In a statement on its website, the Spanish football federation (RFEF) said it was implementing a “parallel bubble” and called on 11 players to join the six backups who were already covering the first team hit by coronavirus.

Spain is set to open its Euro campaign on Monday, playing against Sweden in Group E in southern Seville.

Sweden’s Euro 2020 team has also been plagued by infections, with two players, star striker Dejan Kulusevski and midfielder Mattias Svanberg being positive, his Federation said on Tuesday.

“The coaches of the Spanish national team have decided that the 11 internationals initially called up for the match against Lithuania will remain part of the senior national team,” he said.

The 11 newcomers were members of an under-21 team on Tuesday evening when Lithuania won 4-0 in Spain’s final warm-up match.

“This international team will meet with its teammates … within a parallel bubble, created in anticipation of the possible consequences that the positives of Sergio Busquets and Diego Llorente may have.”

The players are Alvaro Fernandez, Oscar Mingueza, Marc Cucurella, Bryan Gil, Juan Miranda, Gonzalo Villar, Alejandro Pozo, Brahim Diaz, Martin Zubimendi, Yeremy Pino and Javi Puado.

Coach Luis Enrique joined six players signed as insurance against more positives among his team: Rodrigo Moreno, Pablo Fornals, Carlos Soler, Brais Mendez, Raul Albiol and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

17 of Bubble’s own reserves will have no contact with the main squad for Euro 2020.

Spain will also play Poland and Slovakia in Group E, with all the group stage matches played at the Cartuja Stadium in Seville.
