On Wednesday, Sri Lankan coach Mickey Arthur on Wednesday denounced skipper Dasun Shanaka for suggestions in front of the cameras after losing a one-day series in India. India beat Sri Lanka 275-9 on Tuesday with five balls left in Colombo to take a 2-0 lead in a three-game series to record a victory. The Sri Lankan South African coach was seen sharing warm words with Shanaka and gesturing to the captain on the pitch after losing the game to three wickets.

Shanaka appeared to indicate that he needed to go off the field with him, but the captain did not move while Arthur was walking away, in a video posted on social media.

“Actually, it was a very good discussion, there is no need to do any wrongdoing,” Arthur said on Twitter, responding to a comment on the opinion of commentator Russel Arnold that the exchange should be made in the locker room.

Sri Lanka were injured in the series and coach Grant Flower failed to do so, as he tested positive for Covid-19 on his return from touring England with the team when he lost the ODI and Twenty20 series.

Top scorer Charith Asalanka, who turned 65, said he believed Sri Lanka had won the match, but India’s order was lower.

In 193-7 Deepak Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar finished 84th against the eighth wicket for India’s victory.

“We thought about putting in a good total (275), but we lost ground along the way,” Asalanka said.

They said the young Sri Lankan team was emotional after losing the series. The final ODI is on Friday and the three-match T20 series will begin on Sunday.
