A Premier League footballer who plays for Everton has been arrested for child sex offenses, UK police said on Tuesday. The player – who is yet to be named – was arrested on Friday before being interviewed by officials, the AFP news agency reported. They released him on bail. “Officials arrested a man on Friday 16 July 2021 on charges of child sex offenses. They have paid police bail pending further investigation,” Manchester City Police said in a statement on Tuesday.
Everton FC confirmed in a statement that the player has been suspended.
“Everton can confirm that a first-team player has been suspended pending a police investigation,” the club said in a statement.
“The club will continue to assist the authorities in their inquiries and will not make any further statements for the time being,” he added.
