The sedan, not the SUV, behind Hyundai’s recent success in this country, says the CEO

When most automakers around the world are turning to increasingly in-demand car vehicles, Hyundai seems to be moving in a different direction, at least in the United States. The automaker saw a spectacular 56 percent increase in sales over the past month, especially thanks to some of its sedans, not just SUVs.

Jose Munoz, the global COO at Hyundai Motor, said the Korean automaker’s sedan, along with intelligent planning, has contributed to the success of the Covid-19 Pandemic and supply chain problems.

It seems that coats, not SUVs, are one of the X factors in the success of automakers in the US recently. In an interview with one of the U.S. publications, Munoz said, “There are still many, many customers who for many reasons prefer an SUV over a sedan vehicle. So in our case, we finally made the decision to Invest Hard and the Biggest Technology in Passenger Cars.”

In May this year, Hyundai sold 90,017 vehicles and once again hit a record monthly sales in the U.S. for the third month in a row. Hyundai Elantra and Sonata remain two of the favorite sedans for U.S. customers and Tucson and Santa Fe are among its SUVs.

Hyundai Elantra, which recently received the North American Auto Award last year, is the second-best-selling vehicle in the U.S. by the Korean automaker, selling 18,821 units in May. The number of sales is slightly lower than Hyundai’s most popular offering – the Tucson SUV – which registered 18,848 units last month.
