Indian tennis stars Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina have traveled to Tokyo to take part in the upcoming Olympics. Sania and Ankita were both seen at Hyderabad airport on Monday, the Indian Sports Authority (SAI) confirmed. Earlier this month, Sania Mirza and Ankita Rainak confirmed that they would represent India in the Women’s Doubles at the Tokyo Games, after the tickets were officially announced. Sania will represent India for the fourth time at the Olympics, when she will take part in the Tokyo Games, which is scheduled to kick off on July 23, and at the opening ceremony of Ankita Raina.
Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal has also qualified for the Local Olympics as a result of the individual test and will join the pair in Japan.
So far, the first batch of Indian Athletes for the Tokyo Olympics has landed in the Japanese capital. The legendary MC Mary Kom, a PV Sindhu badminton player, archers Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari, along with men’s and women’s hockey teams, the boxing team arrived in Tokyo on Sunday.
So far athletes and staff from 13 different disciplines – badminton, archery, hockey, judo, swimming, weightlifting, gymnastics, shooting, boxing, rowing, sailing, weightlifting and table tennis – have arrived in Japan.
The rest of the contingent, including wrestling and athletics teams, is expected to reunite soon.
