Popular singer Shreya Ghoshal, who sang Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s iconic film ‘Devdas’ in Bollywood on Monday, shared a message on social media to celebrate the film’s 19th anniversary. Shreea took the handle on Twitter and wrote a tweet remembering how she began her professional career at the age of 16, also thanking filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for believing in him at that age. In a tweet, he wrote: “I made my debut in Hindi Films ‘iconic #Devdas film 19 years ago today. It’s still alive in my Memories’ Magical Music years making. Always thank #SanjayLeelaBhansali for believing in that 16 year old girl.
Shree also paid tribute to former actor Dilip Kumar by sharing his monochrome photo. The legendary actor, on July 7, at the age of 98 in Mumbai, passed away as the main character in the 1955 film ‘Devdas’. “As we turn 19, we salute the legend. Devdas, now and forever,” read the text of the photo.
Following the tweet, Shree also thanked her parents for always being by her side and wrote, “And my parents have been with me for days and nights to make me who I am today.”
Ghoshal is one of India’s most popular playback singers and has recorded songs for the Film, winning albums in various languages and prestigious awards for his work. For her work on ‘Devdas’, she received the National Film Award, the Filmfare Award for Best Female Player and the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Musical Talent.
The 37-year-old singer has also appeared as a judge on some reality TV shows such as ‘Indian Idol’ and ‘Indian Idol Junior’. Shreea tied the knot with her childhood friend Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya on February 5, 2015, after nearly 10 years of courtship.
The couple welcomed their first child on May 22, 2021. Based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1917 novel of the same name, Bhansali’s “Devdas,” starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit, was co-starring Kirron Kher. Smita Jaykar and Vijayendra Ghatge were released in 2002 in supporting roles.
