Ahead of the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), former Indian goalkeeper Parthiv Patel praised New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson. Speaking on the Star Sports show’s Game Plan, Patel put Williamson on par with Indian skipper Virat Kohli. “What is Virat Kohli in India, we are on the side of Kane Williamson in New Zealand. Someone with a lot of experience, who knows how to play in English conditions, has done very well in England, and also his ability to play very late,” Patel said.
Parthiv praised Williamson’s technique of playing the ball late and in the line of sight in English conditions, which makes it difficult for the bowlers to get their wick.
“I think, especially when you’re playing in England, that makes a huge difference. You have to play under your eye all the time, so to get out, you have to play really well against him.” he explained.
The left-handed batter also mentioned that Williamson did “decisive work” to get the bowlers to hit the right-hand areas more often.
“You have to be sure that you are often playing in the fields. His ability, his direct defense and always decisive at his feet,” he added.
Williamson will play a key role when New Zealand take on India from June 18 in the first final of the WTC final at Southampton’s Ageas Bowl.
Currently, New Zealand is playing a two-match Test series against the hosts of England. The first test ended in a draw and the second test is scheduled to start on June 10th.
