The Indian Cricket Fraternity mourned the 1983 World Cup winner Yashpal Sharma on Tuesday. The former middle-order bat died of a cardiac arrest in New Delhi. Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Jay Shah, Yuvraj Singh, Anurag Thakur, Venkatesh Prasad and many others paid tribute on social media to the former Indian cricketer. Yashpal Sharma, 66, is his wife, two daughters and a son. Having the toughest stance against Yashpal gave him a love for his teammates and he became a key asset for the Indian team.
Former Yashpal teammate Kris Srikkanth wrote, “It’s sad to hear the disappearance of my teammate and former friend #YashpalSharma! He was one of the main heroes who helped us lift the 1983 World Cup! May the soul be at peace.”

Sachin Tendulkar said the news was “shocking and hurt”.
“Yashpal Sharma ji is shocked and deeply hurt by the disappearance. Remember how he was watching it during the 1983 World Cup. He will always be remembered for his contribution to Indian Cricket. My sincere condolences to the entire Sharma family,” Tendulkar wrote.

Yashpal played 37 races for Team India in his career, scoring 1,606 races averaging 33.46.
It was replaced in 42 ODIs in India, scoring 28.48 out of 88.4 points. He recorded two international centuries.
Yashpal’s most memorable entries were the winners of the 1983 World Cup campaign. In the opening game itself, the player from the match against the West Indies was bagged for his horrific blow in the 89th.
He also played a key role in securing a six-goal victory in the semi-finals against England in India, scoring 61 runs.
